Texas junior Senator, Ted Cruz, as everyone knows, is still trying his best to trump Trump in the 2016 presidential campaign despite the fact he’s behind by hundreds of delegates. If anything, his persistence is commendable -- and delusional. Throughout the campaign, there have been many titles given to Ted Cruz by many people from across the nation, and in unflattering comments on Twitter, including Donald Trump’s favored, “Lyin’ Ted.” Regardless, the amount of derogatory remarks begs the question: how despicable really is this guy, to be called “Lucifer in the flesh?”
Recently, Ted Cruz has made some desperate decisions, namely choosing Carly Fiorina as his running mate when he’s losing, and making a failed alliance with opponent John Kasich that’s ended in embarrassing shambles. Cruz’s comment about not allowing transgender people to pick whichever bathroom they prefer, because it would invite grown men to prey upon little girls in said bathrooms, has also met backlash. And despite the backlash, he’s used Trump’s opposing stance as a gimmick to attract voters, which is both ignorant and immature -- not that some of Trump’s utterances are any better.
Focusing on Cruz, Mazin has disparaged him on Twitter for nearly an entire year and disparaged him in general for even longer. He recounts the horrors that came with Cruz as a roommate and posted on Twitter, “[He] is a nightmare of a human being. I have plenty of problems with his politics, but truthfully his personality is so awful that 99% of why I hate him is just his personality. If he agreed with me on every issue, I would only hate him 1% less.”
To say the least, Mazin has become an internet favorite. In 2013, Mazin also shared with The Daily Beast, the discomfort a lot of women on their floor held in regards to Cruz back in Princeton. Mazin reported that Cruz would often walk near the women’s dorms in a paisley bathrobe, which lead a number of the females to ask Mazin to keep him away. Other classmates have come forth to anonymously describe Cruz as “creepy,” “arrogant,” “abrasive,” and more.
Most recently, John Boehner, former Speaker of the House, called Ted Cruz “Lucifer in the flesh,” a striking description, considering Cruz is a deeply religious man. Boehner then added, “I get along with almost everyone, but I have never worked with a more miserable son of a b**** in my life.”
A personal favorite comes from Al Franken, junior Senator from Minnesota, who joked, “Republicans are in kind of a bind since their best hope for stopping Donald Trump is a guy who’s the lovechild of Joe McCarthy and Dracula,” nearly two weeks ago at MinnRoast, an annual variety show held by MinnPost.
With so many derogatory remarks about the presidential candidate, we once more have to ask ourselves: how much truth do these comments hold about Ted Cruz? If I were to guess, I’d say a lot.
