This past Wednesday, November 4th, Delta Delta Delta at LSU excitedly held their annual fall philanthropy event, Delta Desserts. Anyone and everyone was welcome to come to the Tri Delta House to enjoy an all-you-can-eat dessert buffet! Cakes, cupcakes, and cookies galore from local bakeries and sweet shops were spread across the kitchen along with the perfect beverage to go with your sweets, a cool glasses of milk. While settling into your sugar rush, you were also able to enjoy the mellow music of Abby Wimberly and Alex Smith, singing all your favorite covers. Live music, friends, cake-what more could you want? Oh, that's right, shopping! Tri Delta invited local vendors such as Apricot Lane, SoSis, Rodeo, Haute 131, Posh, and more to set up trunk shows in the chapter room.
What is the best part of all of this? All proceeds went to an incredible cause that is very close to the hearts of the women in Tri Delta. The revenue from ticket sales along with a percentage of the profits made by the vendors, went toward St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. St. Jude provides free treatment to children who have been diagnosed with cancer. The hospital aditionally uses research facilities to work towards finding new treatments and cures for cancer patients. As if that weren't enough, St. Jude also provides a wonderful and fun environment for the children being treated. The walls are filled with colorful murals, and the kids are even pushed around in wagons rather than wheelchairs! This allows the kids a chance to stay kids, and affords them the opportunity to forget the pain of what they are fighting against. Because the hospital does not ask the parents for a dime, it costs about $2 million a day to run St. Jude Hospital.
Delta Desserts is part of Tri Delta's fundraising efforts for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, and it brings us one step closer to helping Tri Delta nationally to meet its 2014 commitment to the hospital of raising $60 million in 10 years towards the Tri Delta House at St. Jude. This is the largest single commitment made by any St. Jude partner. The Tri Delta House is where families stay the very first time they stay at St. Jude. This past year our chapter at LSU alone raised $150,000 for St. Jude through events like Delta Desserts.
