Loving A Long-Distance Friendship

Because those who are the farthest apart could possibly be held the closest to your heart.

I have a friend... well, not just one, I actually have a group of friends that live a great amount of distance away from me. Those friends that live the furthest distance are actually some of the people who are closest to my heart. Even though it sucks that they are not always there with me, I've compiled a list of five reasons to love a long-distance friendship.

1. They know exactly how to brighten your day.

You've spent a significant amount of time with this person, they know you inside and out. But one thing they can peg is when you're in a bad mood. Luckily, they know what makes you happy, and those funny texts, encouraging verses, and goofy throwbacks always know how to brighten your day! Memories like this are constantly sent to me, and they know exactly how to make my day completely turn around and be for the better!

2. They're still always there for you.

So you live hundreds of miles away? Thank God for technology! Whether you shoot a text talking about running into an old friend in your hometown or ranting about how life is unfair, they're still gonna answer and always be there for you, no matter what time of day or night!

3. Random road trips.

Having friends that live a fair amount of distance away from you means going on road trips galore! You get to see new places, do new things, and most importantly, be with someone who you love the most...your best friend! Maybe taking a road trip to their hometown is in order soon? Going somewhere new? That's a great way to go too! Whatever you choose, choose to do it together!

4. They give the best advice.

So they personally don't know who you're talking about when you have drama at home., but sometimes that's the best part. They don't know you and a childhood friend's past, so they can talk you through situations as being "an completely objective third party observer with absolutely no personal interest in the matter." And sometimes, you just need that in your life! Letting someone else speak things over your life is quite an encouragement as well! I'm grateful for the friends who do this for me all the time; they're the ones that get me through those tough times because they see things in me that I wouldn't normally see.

5. The reunions are always a million times better than you ever imagined.

So you only get to see them in person once a year? Honestly, nothing can describe the moment the two of you (or more than two of you) get to meet again after all this time... It almost makes the distance worth it.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
