Loving The Imperfect Life

Loving life, with the imperfections, always.

There is something to be said about loving life. Sometimes it can be hard to find that place inside of you to love every part of it, but I think touching on not only the best parts of life but also the hardest ones, can form a well-rounded outlook. I know, trust me, it is hard to feel sometimes like your life is going exactly how you planned it. You may even find yourself wishing for something different or even want something to never end.

There are so many amazing aspects of life, but for me, which many of you may agree, some of the best parts consist of the memories you make with family, friends (new and old), relationships, and your own personal growth. No matter how small or big these are, hold them close to your heart, they are times to treasure, they can never be taken away from you.

There are moments in your lifetime, that you will have to face things, whether it be fears, challenges, people, illness or even death. These are nothing to feel like "you can't," but more of a "you know what, this is very difficult, but I will preserve, and I will be stronger because of it." Moments. I have had plenty of these times in my life and I know more to come, but I will always be a better version of myself because of them. I look at these times, as blessings, oddly enough. Blessings for the simple fact that they make life, your own.

Another important part of the imperfect life, and loving it, for what it is, is, your feelings. Accept your feelings and let yourself really feel them, it's healthy. You should always be connected to your emotions, it's so important. They are what make different times in your life vivid and authentic. You can't control them, and you shouldn't feel like you need to, let yourself live. I tune into my feelings so much because they are a huge part of me, and I wouldn't trade it for the world.

Life is imperfect, there are countless good and bad times. I always say to my friends, how hard it is for me to imagine a world without the bad, but just good. Whether you believe in God or another higher power, I can't help but feel that if bad things weren't placed in this world, how could anyone, even yourself, appreciate the good in this lifetime, if there was no bad?

I love the imperfections, so much. I would go crazy if there wasn't any, to be honest. The freedom to accept, forgive, learn, and grow is such a gift.

Learn to be more than okay with imperfections, we all aren't perfect creatures, and it's wonderful.

Have faith in it all, your journey, will take you many different paths, some that you will enjoy, some you may not, but never forget to continue to love and trust that you are growing, even if steps are taken backward, it's life.

Remember, you are loved.

xx

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
