Learning to Love a Second Time

Why your second love is even better than your first

Learning to Love a Second Time

As the days change, so do people and our perspectives. The people that come and go in our lives are unfortunately some of the most influential. I know that at one time or another we’ve all been in love, and then at some point heart ache. Luckily for some of us, there’s usually someone there to pick us up when we’ve fallen. Sometimes that’s our second love.

Our second loves are the people who teach us some of the more valuable lessons in life, whether we like to admit it or not. These are the people who teach us to love again, and what it means to be loved. By no means am I saying that a man or a woman should be the reason for internal happiness, but I am saying that you tend to find yourself once you find out what you truly deserve.

These are the loves that surprise you. The ones that make you wonder what you’ve been doing with your entire life prior to being with them. They make you crazy and irrational, but they also show you what you believe in. They save you from having total meltdowns and blasting John Mayer. Instead they make you scream Taylor Swift in your car and brag to all of your friends. These are people that give us confidence again. My second love changed my life. He made it possible to realize what I deserved. He was the one who understood me and allowed me to heal. He taught me who I truly am as a person and what it means to be loved. My second love made me rethink what love really was. He allowed me to become the person I am today with no repercussions or judgement.

I guess what I’m really trying to say is who cares about our first loves. So let's give it up for our second loves. You made it possible to believe in love again, and we’re all forever grateful for you.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
