I had the best mom ever, yes I may be a bit biased but if I can be half the mother she was, then I will be doing pretty good. She taught me so many things but one of the most important lessons was to love myself. She would wake me up in the morning by saying, “Good morning, princess”. Every day she made sure that she had told me that I was beautiful and that she loved me. I was so blessed to have that kind of positive reinforcement in my life and a mother that made me feel so special. When my mom passed away a year and a half ago, not only did I lose my amazing, loving mother but I also lost that constant reassurance that I was pretty and mattered in this world.
Thankfully, my mom had reinstalled in me a confidence in myself and I realized that as long as I know deep down that I am beautifully made and that my life is important, then I don't need someone telling me that all the time. Of course, it is always nice when a boy or even some of your friends tell you that you look good, but we may not have people always telling us that. We cannot rely on others telling us things to boost our self-confidence because if that is the only source of self-assurance we have then what will happen when those people leave or we move away from them?
My friends often laugh at me because they say I have “self confidence goals”, but honestly I have just learned to love myself. If someone isn't going to tell you that you are a smoking hot amazing person who has got it going on, then you know what You need to do? You tell yourself that! When you are feeling bad about your looks, just go look in the mirror and find just one thing you love about yourself and then focus on your good qualities. Do I love everything about myself? No! But I know that I am classy, attractive girl who is trying her best to live a meaningful life, and hopefully you can see the same in yourself.
I love how vocabulary.com defines self-confidence, “To be self-confident is to be secure in yourself and your abilities. Self-confident people don't doubt themselves. This is usually a positive word: you can be self-confident without being cocky, arrogant, or overconfident. If you know what you're doing, you have every reason to be self-confident.”
I was incredibly blessed to have a mother who was such a positive role model in my life, and who made me into the confident and secure woman I am today. I wish that everyone would have someone in their life to always remind them that they are gorgeous and uniquely beautiful, but, unfortunately, that is not always the case, so therefore we all must remind ourselves this truth. When I am in doubt about myself, I just remember my mother’s voice telling me how special I am, so for all of you who are lacking a little self-confidence today, you are fearfully and wonderfully made and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
