I Love You, Coug

My two favorite things have a "Coug" in them, my favorite bar, and my favorite people.

I Love You, Coug

I don't know if I say it enough, but Pullman is literally my favorite place on earth.

There is nothing that could beat this special atmosphere that Pullman radiates. This radiation is made up of the people, the places, and the spirit.

One of my favorite quotes about Pullman comes from none other than the amazing Dr. Elson S. Floyd:

"There is something special about WSU, and even more special about being a Coug. It's about family taking care of family."

I have grown up and learned about life more in the last three years here at WSU than I have in my entire life prior. This place will always have the most special place in my heart because of that.

There is one particular place in Pullman that has stuck out to me during my time here because I feel it possesses all the attributes of this beautiful town that I love so dearly, and that is The Coug.

I have recently turned 21 and have become a frequent customer at The Coug. Like an everyday sort of thing, and no, I'm not ashamed.

There are many reasons why this is my favorite place in Pullman, and I feel like everyone who has been here can relate.

1. It's not a 21+ only bar.

Personally, a majority of my friends are a year younger than me. I love that The Coug gives me a place that I can go to with my underage friends, and still have a good time even if we aren't drinking.

2. It has the best vibes.

Whether it is in between classes, or an afternoon, there is just something about The Coug that makes being with your friends that much better. You just can't be in a bad mood at The Coug.

There is always good music, strong drinks, and the best company, how could you not love it?

3. It's the perfect place to take your parents.

Parent's LOVE The Coug. I took my dad to a fraternity live-out once during dad's weekend, and he almost had a heart attack when I told him people actually lived in it. The Coug is not scary, dirty, or falling apart. This is the perfect place to take your parents.

4. They will ice your friends.

For those of you who don't know what "icing" is, it is when you hide a Smirnoff Ice somewhere for your friend to find, and when they do find it, they have to get on a knee and chug the whole thing.

Kind of scary, I know.

But, it's seriously hilarious. The Coug will ice your friends for you in the most unique ways, and it never fails to get the whole bar chanting.

5. The food, oh my God.

I'm sorry, but if you don't love The Coug's food, there is something wrong with you. Seriously, it is the most amazing bar food I have ever had. They have a wide selection from tater tots to premiere burgers, and they never fail.

I personally recommend the teriyaki burger; it is to die for.

6. From the bartenders to the autographed walls, it is all around amazing.

The Coug is a place I can go to and the bartenders know who I am, greet me with a smile, and know that I'm probably getting a Bloody Mary.

The Coug is a place I can go to and find my best friends names written on the wall, and it never fails to make me smile.

The Coug is a place I can go to and always be reminded of the reasons why I love WSU so much, which I often take for granted.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
