Love can be blind,
or it can be eye opening.
Love can be destructive,
or it can be empowering.
Either way, everyone at one point has felt love- true or not.
In today's society, love is a word used a lot. Whether between friends or between couples, love has been used to convey an emotion that shines bright. However, love is not always a good emotion to feel or to have someone feel for you. From an obsessive love to a one sided love, this emotion has been twisting many people to do things they could never dream of doing. Love has been used to do many evil things, throughout many people's lives.
In works of fiction love has been an excuse for many a tragedy, for example, in Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet and in his work Hamlet. Shakespeare was very good at showing the evil side of love, revealing how it could potentially pollute the mind of those around it. For instance, in Romeo and Juliet three characters died because of love. Tybalt was killed because he dared to stand in the way of Romeo's love, and we all know how the story ended for Romeo and his fair Juliet. In Hamlet, the king was killed by his brother because the brother loved the queen and power. Hamlet himself was driven mad with his love for his father, devoting his life to taking down his father's killer.
It is not far fetched to say that what happened in Shakespeare's plays and stories happen in everyday life. Love can be blinding, not showing that someone is bad for another. Recently, a close friend of mine learned about how destructive love could be. My friend had lost someone that meant a lot to so many people because her love was more important than her common sense and safety. Love can make you stay in a situation that may not be healthy and in the end it can be costly. It would not be the first time to hear that a person would not leave their significant other because they "loved" him or her. Even though their love is true, it could be said that it was an unhealthy love to begin with.
On the other hand, love can be beautiful, empowering those who choose to feel it and it can even open a person's eyes to the truth. In several television shows and movies, love is portrayed as an emotion that trumps hate and anger. In the children's show Avatar: The Last Airbender, one of the main characters enhances his power when he chooses to let go of his anger and let love fuel his life and bending. Another example of this is Disney's Beauty and the Beast. The Beast was so full of anger and regret that he made his friends lives miserable and was trapped in his beast state. Once love entered his life, via Belle, his mood changed, changing himself as well.
Love is two halves of one whole,
It is yin and yang.
It is the good,
the bad,
the beautiful,
and the ugly.
Love has two sides, two faces, depending on how one chooses to show it. Everyone feels love, it is an emotion that many covet. However, love can be a misleading mistress. It is up to everyone who feels love to use caution when it comes into your life. Love can always be a good and healthy emotion, it all depends on if we, as people, nurture it and take care of it. So, do not be afraid to feel love, just remember to seek wisdom once you have it.
