I am going to start out this article like so many Greek life-related posts: upon entering college, I did not see myself joining a sorority. No one in my family ever was Greek and I was confused by the obscure symbols adorning chests all across campus. In fact, I did not even rush my freshman year. It took until my second year of college for me to realize that Greek life was something I wanted to be a part of.

When going through recruitment, potential new members hear all of the subjective ways that Greeks contribute to their respective schools. We donate to philanthropy, ignite spirit on campus, and encourage each other to excel academically. Despite any poor reputations sororities may have nationally, the undeniable truth is that Greek organizations help members flourish in several facets of university life.

However, I think that the most valuable part of being a sorority woman is something that you cannot truly appreciate until you experience it yourself. It's something that isn't a statistic or a number. It's what you see between sisters when they're smiling and laughing during clips in their recruitment video - girl love.

As college-aged women, we life in a world where female-to-female competition runs rampant. Girls constantly try to outdo each other and see each other fail. In high school, I had a select few of incredible girl friends, but I entered college thinking I was one of those girls who only got along with guys. Once I went Greek I realized that I simply had not met the right girls yet.

The second I revealed on Bid Day, I ran into the arms of a group of women who support each other unconditionally. Never have I met so many girls who genuinely care about each other. Being a part of my sorority has opened doors to so many friendships I never knew I could have in college.

So, when people ask me about how I feel about joining my sorority, I tell them that it's one of the best decisions I've made in college. Moving away from home can be a scary time, and I'm lucky enough to have moved into a new one. I feel so much love for my sisters and I hope that this has served as a way for me to show them how much I love them back.
