A Love Poem Dedicated To My Bed

Your bed at college is your foundation for success, really. Think about it; it's been through almost everything with you. It's your support system in a place you've adopted as a temporary safe space. It’s where you go to have a good cry or when you need to recover from a strenuous day of juggling a laundry list of responsibilities. There's something about knowing you can return after a stressful afternoon to a much-needed nap, that gets you through class after class. Your bed is where you make long phone calls home, eat late-night snacks, and watch marathons of your favorite shows with friends. It's where you have serious, or not-so-serious pillow talks with your significant other, contemplate all your life choices, and most importantly, sleep. And sleep some more. The easiest part of the day is giving into your bed. The hardest part: letting go in the morning.

I thought I'd take this opportunity to write a fun, yet very genuine love poem dedicated to my bed. It doesn't get enough credit for putting up with me.

Dear Bed,

I feel like it’s about time I expressed

All the things from the bottom of my heart

That I’ve grown to love about you

So I’ll list them all from the very start:

You're always there for me

In the morning, noon, or night,

You give me exactly what I need

And make even rainy days alright.

You don’t ever discriminate

When I look like a hot mess,

You welcome me in with warmth

After long hours of non-stop stress.

I’m sorry for all the crumbs

That have nestled between each sheet,

I’m sorry for those after-gym naps

When I haven’t washed my feet.

Each morning when the sun awakens

And it’s time to rise and shine,

I can't bare to leave you

Knowing that you’re all mine.

You have tricked me more than once

Into staying home from school

With your cozy, comfy ways

That make me snore and even drool.

You can’t help me with homework

Or prepare me for a big test,

But you give me support

When I’m trying my very best.

You are one of the few ingredients

Of an awful hangover cure,

And even when my life's a wreck

You always keep me feeling secure.

You’ve been there for breakdowns,

And you’ve felt all my tears,

You protect me from the cold

And scare away all my fears.

Sometimes our relationship gets too close

And I need to give you space,

But at the end of the day I’m all yours

Because college is one scary place.

So thank you for being my better half,

My family, my best friend,

I’ll love you forever and always

I’ll never have to pretend.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
