I Love My Long Distance Best Friends

When you have someone you love so much and care about deeply are miles and miles away from where I am, it hurts. There are two very special people to me that are nowhere near where I live, but at least one of them is in the same state I live in. My two best friends Alexia and Anna are people that I tell everything to and I trust them so much. They are always there for me and this past semester I was lucky enough to visit both of them for a weekend.

A nine hour drive from Denton Texas through Louisiana and Mississippi to get to our destination of Tuscaloosa Alabama. I had attended The University of Alabama and made so many friends that I had missed dearly and at the time my then boyfriend had said we needed a trip and that adventuring to Alabama would be a fun time so we went! The drive was very long and filled with us eating so many different snacks ( mainly gummy bears or worms of sorts). But that’s not important, we got to Tuscaloosa at about five in the morning and when I knocked on the door and Anna stepped outside it was amazing! We hugged immediately and cried because it had been months since we had seen each other. In that moment everything was back to normal and it was liked I had never left Alabama

Within those three days that I was there it was like old days when we lived in Harris Hall, which was our old dorm, we caught up on everything that we had missed in the months that we were apart. I realized while we were sitting in the apartment that we were supposed to live together in that I honestly never wanted to go back to Texas because I was desperately missing this part of my life.

Fast forward to the next day and it was game day in Alabama and we and overall had an amazing day. I’m really glad I ended up going to see her and I cannot wait to go back to Alabama and spend some more time with her because I really miss her. When I had to leave Tuscaloosa on Sunday afternoon it was really depressing but I always know that Anna will be there for me as well I will always be there for her.

Now we are going to fast forward a couple weeks, to when I went to visit my love, Alexia. It has been five years being best friends with this girl, she knows everything about me and i know everything about her. From weird things to funny things, through hard times and happy times. She knows exactly how to make me smile even if I don’t have anything to smile about. There’s so much I thank her for it is insane.

Well Alexia currently goes to Texas Tech in Lubbock so from Denton that is about a five hour drive and those five hours in a car were totally worth seeing her. The drive just like the other I was accompanied by my ex and lots of gummy bears and sodas. It was not as far as Tuscaloosa but there was nothing and I mean nothing but trees and grass on the drive to Lubbock. But when your best friend calls you and says that they need you, you do everything in your power to make sure you are there for them, and that’s how I ended up in Lubbock for the weekend.

Seeing Alexia, we hugged and teared up because we had missed each other so much. I swear in the two and a half days I was there I said “I love you” more to her than my ex. But it was the same with her and her boyfriend as well, you can not split up two best friends haha. Talking with Alexia about everything we could fit in within the time I was there we remembered things from debate tournaments to just passing periods. We spent the night eating Mcdonalds and watching guys play video games (total guy things to do). It was such a chill night. Then the last night that we were in town we went to a fair. It was so much fun, we rode rides and ate funnel cakes and did all the things we are going to do at The Rodeo coming up.

Although I think saying goodbye to Alexia was probably the hardest thing to do especially when you really do not want to leave. But school calls and unfortunately you have to go back because education will ultimately get you somewhere in life. Although that is a life lesson for another time.

These girls mean so much to me and I am glad that I have them in my life because I do not know what I would do without them. So thank you Anna and Alexia for your friendship and everything really. I love y’all

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
