Why I Love MSU Parking

Thankful for parking tickets, no spaces, commuter lots, and more.

Michigan State - Go Green, Go White! Best school around: fact. Best parking system around, too. Here's a list of my most favorite features in our parking lots!

1. I love when you have to pay $.90 an hour to park at IM West to workout. Like you have to pay to go sweat. That seems like the ideal way to encourage strong, habitual, athletic habits.

2. I love when your meter runs out and .00000009 second later, you have a parking ticket. And when you see the parking police pulled up next to your car and you sprint across lawns and roads at the speed of a young cheetah to try to save yourself $40, but you don't quite make it. Good cardio training, bad luck.

3. I love when you pay hundreds of dollars for a commuter parking pass for a semester, because I don't know about you, but I have literally nothing else I'd rather spend money on. Not tuition, not meal passes, not my rent or groceries or anything. I have always looked forward to making money that I can spend on parking spots.

4. I love when those commuter parking passes are on the very edge of campus. It's in these moments that I'm so thankful that our campus encompasses over a mile radius. But mostly, it's in these moments that I'm most grateful for the train that runs directly throughout the center of it. It all really adds to the suspense of making it to lecture 15 to 25 minutes late.

5. I love when there are home football games, you probably should go park down by the capital and take a hike because you aren't getting anywhere near Spartan Stadium. Not even close.

6. I love when people come to visit you in the dorms, and you don't really have a great option for them. Like you can keep putting in quarters every hour in the circle drive overnight and park there? It really encourages those long-distance relationships.

But then again, the parking system at Michigan State is going to save the earth someday. I have never desired the option of biking and walking as much as I do when I think about the obstacle course my car has to leap through in order to take me places. Saving the ozone layer one parking ticket to a poor college student at a time. Spartans Will.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

19 Lessons I'll Never Forget from Growing Up In a Small Town

There have been many lessons learned.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
