When you think of love, you think of something unconditional. Something where you kiss in the pouring rain, something where they make you chicken noodle soup when you're sick, something where they hold you when you cry.
But that's not always the case.
You find out the people who are your ride-or-dies when the going gets tough. We often tend to assume that the person we are romantically involved with is one of those, because duh, we're in love with them, but they don't always meet that expectation.
When life becomes a valley, people you used to think would stick by you through anything and everything will remain at the top of the hill and look down on you. You'll be the one to blame, somehow, for allowing your life to become negative. Your depressed tweets will become annoying because they get mad you can't fix yourself. Your complaining gets old. They become tired of your life not being up to their standards for associating.
Well, when that happens, you tell those people to fuck right off.
You're a package deal. Your bad days, your good days and everything in between makes up who you are. You're more than a bad day, a bad week, a bad couple of months. Your mental illness doesn't define you. Anyone who thinks it does doesn't deserve to be in your life.
When you think of love, you don't think of something with an expiration date. Something where your depression annoys them, something where they ghost you, something where they're the reason you're crying.
If someone can't love you when you're at your worst, they never loved you to begin with.
Love is unconditional, and anything short of that is a façade. Love is "I'm so sorry you're hurting, I will be right by your side and I will do anything I can to help you." Love is complementary and understanding. Love is through thick and thin, hills and valleys.
Anyone who won't stick by you when you're hurting, when you're at your lowest or when you need their love the most isn't worthy of being loved by you. Whether it's a platonic or a romantic relationship, know your worth and don't give love to anyone undeserving. You are worthy of love at all times, no matter how good or bad your life is going right now.
