LUSH is a cosmetics company that sells amazing products, has amazing ethics and employs fun people. The products at LUSH range from body scrubs to bath bombs. No matter what product you buy it's guaranteed to be vegetarian, handmade, ethically sourced and great for your body. I have only tried three LUSH products but I won't be stopping with those. The products are undeniably more expensive than what I normally purchase, but the quality makes the price worth it. I'll definitely be stopping by my local LUSH retail store for future purchases. I can't stay away from this amazing company. So if you're still not itching to head to your local store, I would love to change that by sharing some specifics of why I love LUSH.
The ingredients
According to their website, "Using whole, fresh ingredients means you get the most effective product for your money." LUSH's ingredients are 100 percent vegetarian and 81 percent vegan - they are never ever tested on animals and ingredients are only purchased from suppliers who don't test on animals either. The ingredients are so fresh that many of the products need to be refrigerated - it's only slightly less convenient than bottles that can always stay in the shower and way more assuring to know that I'm using real, fresh ingredients on my skin. Lastly, the ingredients are just plain fun! I have the Ocean Salt face and body scrub and it has vodka in it - I don't even drink but I found this to be silly and exciting.
The employees
Mark Constantine, co-founder of LUSH, says to, "employ passionate, enthusiastic, ethical people. Employ the fanatics. Employ the crazy people that other people won’t employ because they’re too crazy."
I truly believe the company lives by this belief, because their employees seriously rock. I have only been to my local store, so this is a shout out and a praise to the Omaha staff team! I went in the store about 40 minutes before they closed, but the employees still engaged with me and wanted me to be informed of how great of a company LUSH is. One girl helped me try out about five different body scrubs before I made a decision, and the guy working at the time answered all of my questions that I was embarrassed to ask because they all seemed pretty silly.
The products actually work
I've never struggled with acne until a few months ago. The stress of school, work and a break up made me break out like never before. I purchased the Ocean Salt and the Mask of Magnaminty face and body scrubs. I use the mask about twice a week and Ocean Salt maybe three times a week. I have seen significant changes in my skin already. My dad, of all people, even noticed! I love that these products don't need to be used daily to work because it makes them last a long time and I honestly don't have the time to wait for a face mask to dry every day. I got a sample of the happy hippy shower gel and I haven't used it regularly enough to see how it has changed my skin, but I know it leaves me feeling fresh and smelling great.
The ethics
LUSH believes in making the freshest products with organic ingredients, which I have talked about already. LUSH also believes that people are valuable and important in their company. Again, the employees rock; and all of LUSH's products are handmade with the maker's face put right on the pot. Speaking of the pots, they are all recycled! Bring in five empty pots and get a free face mask. If products don't require packaging, then LUSH simply doesn't package them. This eliminates waste and ensures the customer is only paying for the product. LUSH has also headed many ethical campaigns. For their most recent one they gave 100 percent of the sales of a specific bar of soap to their Friendship Fund which helps "help various organizations provide relief to the most pressing needs of refugees arriving in North America." Seriously - how great is that!?
LUSH is an amazing company in so many ways. I hope by now that you can't wait to go get some fresh cosmetics that are good for your body and great for the world. I urge you to go to your local LUSH store and find a product that works for you. You won't regret it.
