Love: noun; an intense feeling of deep affection, a person or thing that one loves. Verb; to feel a deep romantic or sexual attachment to someone.
Love, itself, is universal. Humans feel love, animals feel love, living things feel love. Throughout our lives, we will feel love. This love starts with the love between a parent and a child – the most unconditional type of love that there is. This love then progresses to the love of family, the love of friends, and then the love one person shares so deeply with another, that they give themselves to that person.
Love is a journey, one that begins and never really ends. The ways in which we feel love may be different, but we have all experienced it at one point in time.
As those of us who have experienced love may know, it is not always easy. It is not always I love her and she loves me, the end. Love does not mean there is no pain, no sorrow, and no bumps in the road. Love causes us to feel things so deeply that we sometimes do not know what to do with the feelings we have. These feelings can be so consuming that our entire bodies are taken over by them, our decisions are swayed because of them, and we feel things we did not know possible because of them.
Love like this is not something we can practice or prepare for, it just happens. Life somehow places people in our lives and these people show us what love feels like. While there are many different kinds of love, feeling the love others have for you is something that will never be shy of amazing.
It feels like sunshine; like the most blissfully perfect day you have ever experienced. It looks like the best movie you have ever watched on repeat, in your favorite chair with your favorite blanket, with your favorite people. It tastes like an all you can eat buffet of the best food you have ever tasted. It smells like the perfume you have had since you turned thirteen. It sounds like your happy playlist, the one you listen to when the windows are down and the birds are chirping.
Love is not something you can order at the drive thru window or place on hold, it is something that you are made to feel in your entire mind, body, and soul.
Love is messy – it hurts in places you never knew could hurt. It makes you feel things in places that you did not know you could feel things. It makes you see things differently, it makes you think things differently, and it makes you love differently.
When you truly feel what love is, in all of its beauty and power, you learn to love people the way that they love you. This feeling, the feeling of being loved and loving others, is something to love. It is something to carry with you as long as you possibly can. It is something to hold on to and never let go. It is something that when felt, will change your life forever.
