I'll never forget the first time Justin Bieber entered "My World" (pun absolutely intended). It was the day before the start of my seventh-grade year, and I had just finished up school shopping. As I was making the life-or-death decision of what to wear on the first day of school, a pretty face with a high-pitched voice came on my TV screen.
My life would never be the same.
Despite having to take some time to decipher whether the singer of this catchy debut was a boy or a girl, Justin soon became the man of my dreams. I, along with almost every little girl in the world, became helplessly diagnosed with "Bieber Fever."
Shamelessly, I covered my walls with posters of him and even stuck stickers in any place I could that read, "I'm Justin's 'Favorite Girl.'" I didn't care who knew or how much I got teased for it, I was a Belieber and there was nothing more important in my 12-year-old life.
Rightfully so, Justin Bieber's first tour was my first concert. Ahh, nosebleed seats never looked so good. While hysterically crying, I sang along to every song (and my voice probably matched his at the time).
My love for the Biebs only grew after seeing him in real life. However, after he cut his infamous Bieber hair, he also cut the good-boy persona -- and my teenage heart.
I don't know about you, but drag racing under the influence, throwing eggs at houses, assaulting others, and urinating in morally wrong places was the last thing I expected from this kid:
Needless to say, I was sickened by Justin's mayhem. I began to distance myself from his world-dominating fan base that I once took so much pride in being a part of. For me, it was hard to take rapper Biebs seriously. All I could think of were the good old "baby, baby, baby" days. I just couldn't wrap my mind around how someone who literally had the whole entire world in his hands could be so selfish as to let down millions of people who believed in him.
After years of following Justin's needless destruction, my disappointment turned to sympathy. The kid was only 16 when he released his first album that instantly led him to the level of stardom others spend lifetimes trying to reach. He was young, and what happens when you're young? You make mistakes, and lots of them. However, because he is Justin Bieber, he has more opportunities for stupidity. Everything he does is magnified by the media and is probably made to sound 100 times worse.
Despite his rough patch, it wasn't "too late now to say sorry." After the release of Justin's fifth and most recent album, "Purpose," it is apparent that he has matured quite a bit from his chaotic ways. Bringing back a more sophisticated version of the singer who stole my heart five years prior, he went and did it again. The guy I lost all respect for is the same guy I now have tickets to see again this summer. If you say that this album doesn't completely make you swoon, you clearly haven't listened to it. Whether you have been a die-hard fan from the very beginning or have never cared too much for him, there's no denying that Justin Bieber has taken the music world by storm and has absolutely made it his own.
