I think everyone likes to watch YouTube videos, whether it's watching news clips, the latest video of our favorite YouTuber, movie scenes, trailers, viral videos, etc. YouTube is a way of connecting our world together, just by uploading a piece of our life or a creation of our own. I came across Cut Video when I saw the video: "One Word: America," where the people of Cut Video asked black men from the ages of five to 50 their response to the word, America.
These videos were published around the time when Ferguson and cases about the deaths of black people due to police brutality was becoming a big issue. Similar videos are One Word: Privilege, Ferguson, and Police. Other videos that have been published have to do with one word that usually brings up an issue such as abortion, marriage, and feminism. Others have to do with sexuality and sex such as faggot, "be a man," and pussy. Two other videos have been published with the words: mother and father due to Mother's and Father's Day.
I love these videos because it shows that all kinds of people of different ages, races, and sexuality have a perspective. Some are similar. Some are different. Some are surprising. Some take the words right out of you. These videos give you a different outlook on the issues and sayings that are actually affecting that person, whereas with a lot of issues we give our opinion freely and the issue doesn't necessarily affect us.
These videos deserve to be watched, and I think a lot of people can learn a lot from them. When you watch these videos you think, "Oh I didn't think about that," or "I didn't know these kinds of people feel this way," or "I didn't know why people felt that way until now."
Cut Video is also famous for the "100 Years of Beauty Series." What do you think Cut Video should feature next on One Word?
