We only have one chance at life. We have one chance to take all of the joy, the heartache, the mistakes, the successes, and mold them all into the best life that we can have. Every minute that we spend not taking action is a minute that we will never get back.
This fault of wasting time comes with a false sense of stability. We, from a young age, believe that we are unconquerable and we have all of the time in the world. The harsh reality is that the world has us. The world holds us captive as we sink away into dust. The world doesn't wait for us to make our decisions. The world, if anything, changes around us to force us to make our decisions faster. We are puppets strung up to a spinning mass of land and sea, and we were not born to understand our position as pawns on the Earth.
We cannot make sense of ourselves because our parents and our teachers tell us that we will do "great things" with our lives. This idea is engraved into our brains, but not in our actions. Cocky we become at the thought of what the world owes us when we seldom give back to it, or even to others. We expect that when the time comes we will be given a fancy life on a silver platter that was all purchased by the labors and efforts of other people.
This idea is not true for all people, I understand. There are many young people that are currently striving for success, and finding it because of their perseverance. Instead of waiting for actions to pass, these people are actively pursuing what they must to ensure a stable future for themselves, and possibly their families when they come of age.
This mindset is what all young people must get into their heads. The idea of "you're special" and "you will do great things" is only air when compared to the idea of "if you do ___ you will do great things", or "you should use your special skill and ___". Actively finding opportunities to portray our talents is the true way into the successful business world.
Some lucky people are successful because their success was handed down to them, usually through connections or family ties. We do not all have these connections, so there is no point in sulking. We have to use our own talents and our own ideas to make our own connections and stop worrying about what others do or how they succeeded.
To succeed, however, we need to fail. we need to experience as many failures as it takes to understand that success does not come easy. But, with all of this in mind, we only have one lifetime to do it all. Years seems like plenty of time, but it really is not. 50 years from now, where will you be? Are you taking the risks necessary to get a life that you enjoy? Are you happy? Think of the answers to these questions, and change your life around if you must, because even as you read this article, time is ticking away.
