Looking Back At New York Fashion Week 2015

With New York Fashion Week 2016 is slowly unfolding over the new 2 weeks or so, lets recap who stole the show in 2015:

Another year has come around, bringing in new styles, extravagant trends, and new designers into the spotlight. With more collections being premiered at this years New York Fashion week than anyone could have envisioned, this was quite an event that was not worth missing. Designers gather from around the world to exhibit their latest spring collections in an action packed week full of celebrities and famous creators. Last year Fashion Week was held from Thursday, September 10th through Thursday, September 17.

On Wednesday, crowds gathered at west 27th street to try and catch a glimpse of Kanye West before his New York entrance to his Yeezy Adidas collection show. Kim Kardashian and baby North were in attendance as this compilation took center stage. The runway show, which was choreographed down to the last step, was meant for it to bring a military feeling throughout the crowd. “sergeants” down the runway in groups escorted the models as if they were getting ready for battle. Kanye West describes this new collection as having a “soft and streety” look to it. This stylistic trend includes sweat pants, flak jackets, a variety of coats, as well as body shapers. Kanye seemed to break the rules of fashion when he unveiled his whole new addition was going to be skin toned and nude colors. During the runway show, he matched the model’s skin colors with the colors of his new collection. Some criticized this new shift in the fashion world but others thought of it as pure genius.

It was the beginning of something marvelous when Donna Karen and her Line, DKNY, took into consideration the modern, cutting-edge position of New York on the map. When she launched DKNY in 1989, New York City was a place full of construction and altering skylines. It was once only distinguished by Wall Street firms and the hustle-and-bustle that a commercial urban area entails. This year during New York Fashion Week, her mindset changed to adapt to the changing environment now. Her collection focused on loosening up the business uniform and transforming it into something anyone can wear to work in the creative and inventive society we now have. Some of her main styles include oversized blazers as mini dresses, a wrapped skirt, and a plain white t-shirt. Her designs definitely turned the heads of many fashion icons and standouts.

The new style trending among all of the designers in New York, is the newfound comfort paired with fashion. In recent years, pajamas are just comfortable pieces of clothing you wear to bed. During Fashion week this year, many creators tried a new spin on the regular boring pajamas and made them into relaxing pieces that are also appreciated in the fashion world. This new look is meant to be worn out of the house to work or maybe even to a night on the town. Some of the attire that is included in this comprises of romantic camisoles, satin blouses, and lounging pants. The fashion society loved this new trend. I have a feeling we will see more than models rocking this look.

We will have to see what the new and upcoming fashion trends there are for this year. Don't miss it!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
