Look Out, Young Democrats

It would be easy to compare politicians to used car salesmen, but to compare the candidates on CNN’s first Democratic debate to used car salesman would be an insult to the industry. I don’t know if they are lying to you outright, or if they are simply “playing politics,” but someone would like to take you for a ride.

Let’s talk about Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton, two of the oldest white people on the stage. Bernie and Hillary have been gaining a lot of support among young people with talk of student loan relief while appealing to older generations by refusing to reform social security in any way, under any circumstances.

They have put a nice new wax on a car that is barely running: the now-panicking Democratic Party that lost landslide elections in 2010 and 2014, and whose likely nominee, Mrs. Clinton, is under criminal investigation.

Along with the wax, they have hung some fluffy dice on the rearview mirror hoping to distract voters from our nation’s structural debt problem. Ladies and gentlemen, this car is not safe to drive in. But like the mule being led over a cliff with his eyes focused on carrot in his face, Bernie, Hillary and the Democratic National Committee would like you to keep your eyes trained on those fluffy dice before they bail out the passenger seat GTA-style and send you over the cliff.

While you are distracted by promises of student loan relief, “free” healthcare, and all the other litany of empty promises, old Uncle Bernie is reaching into your back pocket to suck your bank account dry, as you pay taxes to the Social Security Administration to fund his generation’s retirement.

Here is some news for you: current retirees are the richest generation ever. Despite what promises the federal government makes to you about social security being an “investment” in your future, you will never receive a dime of what you pay in. The system is unsustainable, and many economists predict financial catastrophe if the program is not reformed.

This geriatric Robin Hood is stealing from the young to give to the old, and the $18 trillion in new spending that he has proposed is either going to come from the private sector, where many of you will be begging for a job upon graduation, or it is going to be borrowed from China and Saudi Arabia.

The current national debt of the United States is $18.4 trillion and growing every day. That money will have to be paid off in the form of ever-increasing interest payments in the near future, but Bernie and Hillary plan on being long gone by the time you are forced to pay for the promises they think will get them elected.

Maybe they will have a nice new portrait, or a fancy new library with their name on it built after they leave office, financed by you and your hard-earned money. Maybe you work your tail off to make good grades, and network furiously for job opportunities after graduation. Maybe you already have a job lined up after college. Maybe you don’t know what you’re going to do.

This should be an exciting time in your life with nothing but opportunity ahead. Are you going to let that be taken from you just because some old socialists knew how to play the game better than you?

Wake up, it is time to educate yourself on the truth. It is time to activate your B.S. detectors. It is time for you to live life without having to worry about what the Washington Cartel is planning next to enrich themselves at your expense.

Don’t listen to the propaganda. If you are not ready to hear the truth, don’t vote! If you are ready for a brighter tomorrow, educate yourself and get active.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
