I went to get my hair cut, and I realized that as much as I love my naturally curly hair, it's a monster to deal with. Everyone with straight hair wants curly hair, and everyone with curly hair wishes they had straight hair. Curly hair is hard to maintain. Imagine dealing with Chewbacca and a lion's mane. That’s curly hair.
I was thinking about what people with curly hair hate, and here's what I came up with:
First of all, you need to know the difference between natural curls (bottom photo) and curling iron curls (top photo). If your curls are from a wand, straightener, or curling iron, they aren't natural.
Rain is your mortal enemy. Once it starts to rain, you know your hair is going to get super frizzy.
When people say “I wish I had naturally curly hair like you." Um, no, you don’t. Curly hair is a chore.
Brushing your hair is useless, and brushing it when it’s dry just makes it worse.
Humidity. No matter what product you use, and how much you use, it’ll be a crazy mess.
Everyone wants to touch your hair. Please, no.
But, there are some days where your natural curls are just too perfect to pass up and you regret ever saying anything mean to your hair.
I used to have super long, curly hair, and then one day, I cut it short and never looked back. Then, I just cut it even shorter. Sometimes I feel like I have spent more money on hair products and haircuts than my on my college tuition, but curly hair is important to deal with. If you don’t know how to style it, then you’ll hate your natural curls. When I was in the eighth grade, I was so set on getting my hair thermally straightened, because I hated the way my curls looked. Unfortunately, my dad didn’t feel like spending $750 at Gene Juarez to get my hair done. I’m really glad I didn’t get my hair straightened; it is easy enough for me to use my flat iron and do my own hair. Plus, my flat iron was like, $80, and works like a charm. Curly hair is only a struggle if you make it a struggle. Go out and get some Bumble and Bumble products from the curly collection and you’ll love your natural hair.
People with curly hair are actually pretty darn lucky. Our hair can hold braids easier, and we don’t even need ponytails for buns. Just tuck your hair in the bun and it will hold. Also, if we want it straight, we can go straighten it. We can also use a curling iron if we want curled hair.
In the end, curly hair isn’t a bad thing. Its really nice, even when you have a mane. Sometimes, the mane looks nice; the curls aren’t the same every day. I used to straighten my hair all the time, and after getting it cut, I've realized that it is so much healthier, and I never want to damage my uncontrollable curls again. You just need to embrace your curls. Everyone loves curly hair, even if it looks like a small mane.
I love my natural curls and wouldn't want my hair any other way.
