What it’s like when you have a long distance friendship is nothing like you’ve ever experienced.
Having a long distance friendship is one of the hardest things one can ever experience. You have been friends with somebody for so long and then all of the sudden, your world changes. You go to college. You and your best friend become separated. It’s scary.
You and your best friend do everything together.
At first, you are afraid nothing will be the same. You’re scared to lose your best friend. You’re scared that one day you won’t get a text from her. You’re so afraid. Then, you become clingy. You constantly text your each other. You double and triple text. You literally send a text message for everything that happens in your life.
After you get clingy, you realize that there is nothing to worry about. You think you were crazy, but your best friend was just as worried....even if she didn’t act like it. She is not as impulsive as you, and you know that. Your best friend loves you just as much as you love her.
As your college years go on, you grow closer with your best friend. You may not see her often during the school year, but then comes summer. During the summer, you two spend as much time as you can together. Even if one of you ends up staying on campus for the summer. You come home for weekends. You bring your best friend to stay with you for a night, a couple of days, or even a week. If it weren’t for your best friend, you wouldn’t make it through the summer as well as you have been.
When you get to hang out, you do as much as you can together. You go on adventures. You would through the town. You go to the mall and spontaneously get your ears pierced with her. You sleep outside, under the stars for the first time. You laugh until three o’clock in the morning. You dance and sing and go to concerts. You do everything you can together, even though you are not together often.
When you stay up late, you talk about your friendship. You remind each other that you haven’t forgotten anything about your friendship. You become sentimental together. You realize how close you’ve grown. Closer than before you were forced to be apart. You and your best friend will never ever forget each other.
In your mind, you think about how blessed you are. You realize that you have the best friend in the world. You begin to understand that after this long, there is nothing that could stop your friendship. You two have built such a wonderful relationship that there is nothing that could break it.
Shout out to you, best friend. I hope you read this and remember I’m always here and I will always love you. I will never give up being your best friend, for the rest of our lives.
