The Long Haul: Now to Spring Break

We have all experienced at least one of these feelings before, but let’s ban together and stick it out.  Fair warning: This article provides no motivation on working towards the perfect spring break body because I have lost all hope, so best of luck to you!

First semester really flew by.  I don’t know about you, but I thought it came and went. If you’re like me, it’s the beginning of second semester and you are constantly checking your weather app to see if the forecast shows any signs of sun anytime soon.

If you don’t go to school in the Midwest or even the East Coast, you’re probably laughing at me because I bet you are probably basking in the glory that is the sun.  First semester may be a little longer than second, but even with the slight difference in weeks, second semester has only one declared break: spring break.

Second semester is off to a slow, but steady, start.  You are regretting signing up for all nine am classes, and you’re pretty sure your professor is trying to break your bank because the syllabus requires you to get four different books.  There is also the dreaded “recommended” book as well.  Classes have been trudging on for a couple of weeks, and you’re proud of yourself for keeping your attendance high.

Through January, February and maybe part of March, people are trying very hard to continue with their New Year resolution of working out once a day.  You are completely dreading going to the gym, but when you’re on the eighth season of Criminal Minds and all your roommates are going to the gym you feel a tad guilty, throw on some gym shoes and declare that your pajamas also qualify as work out clothes. Unfortunately for you, you end up seeing the most beautiful man you have ever laid your eyes on right as you walk through the door of the ARC.

You learned the hard way first semester that keeping any sort of budget is hard and you ate out way more than you should have.  Maybe it was a phone call from your parents, or worse, having the cashier at Jimmy Johns tell you that your balance is zero that made you realize you need to watch your account.  Nice… Not only are you starving now, but you also felt awkward when you were turned away.  The long haul between now and spring break makes you miss the great, “free” food you devoured at home.

The days between now and spring break may feel short as it gets dark so early, and the strange variation of temperature may make you want to stay in bed until the sun finally stops hiding, but don’t let that get you down.  You’re back with your college friends and you make the rules.  Put effort into your classes and your time to go out with friends will present itself right away.  It may not seem like it, but no one wants to see you fail.

Whether your #SB2k15 consists of piña coladas and tanning lotion, searching for a summer internship (UGH) or a continuation of your winter break (plopping yourself in the same spot on your couch and asking your mom what’s for dinner), you can bet that from now until spring break you will find yourself trying to find some motivation to get you to the long-awaited break.  Don’t worry, you’ll find your way there one-way or another!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
