I’m just going to start off by saying: long-distance relationships suck. Being away from the person you love and spend a great deal of your time with for extended, sometimes indefinite periods of time is no fun, trust me I know. However while it is not an ideal situation, if two people are committed to each other and decide that their relationship is more important than the distance and the problems it may cause, let them make that decision. The distance already places a good amount of stress on the relationship and extra stress from people making rude comments is extremely unnecessary. What comments am I referring to? Let me give you some examples:
"What’s the point of being together?”
“He’s probably cheating on you.”
"When are you going to move out there?"
“That’s not going to work.”
These comments are the ones I’m referring to. They are rude and most importantly are none of anyone’s business and should not be asked. As the questions and comments that you make could be turned on any relationship. But for all of the people who have ever made these comments let me give you an answer:
The point of being together is that we love each other just as is in any other relationship.
Cheating is possible in any relationship whether you live together or live miles apart and is a result of relationship issues, not how close people live to each other. And FYI, Cheating is often higher in relationships where people live in the same city.
Um…. Why do I have to move? My life is here. Would you ask me the same thing if I were a man? If I was moving it would be completely my business as to when I did that.
How do you know it’s not going to work? Is your relationship going to work?
All I know is that relationships are hard no matter what and while distance makes it harder it doesn’t make it impossible. People are getting jobs in cities away from their lovers and are forced to move far away. It happens and people find a way to make it work. All of the missed date nights, waking up alone, being the friend without a date while dating someone and other issues are quickly forgotten when you see the person you love again. And that reunion makes it all worth it.
