To start, I play soccer at the division 1 level, and I know for sure that my team's locker room talk has nothing to do with sexual assault. And even if Donald Trump was referring to a men's locker room conversation, it's STILL NOT locker room talk. Professional athlete's tweet their defense:
The problem is much bigger than politics, and we as a generation need to realize that.
We need to recognize that rape culture can be performed in many ways, and it starts with these types of behaviors. It's one thing to actually commit the crime of sexual assault, but it's another to talk and brag about it. Not only does it enhance the rape culture, but it defends it. Saying, locker room talk = boys will be boys.
What about the 1 in every 6 women who have been sexually assaulted? What about them when they hear their assaulter bragging about what they did to her? Or what about the 3% of men who have been reportedly sexually assaulted? Do you think they feel like boys are just being boys?
America, this is disgusting, and we need to fix it now.
