Why Living In Reinert Isn't That Bad

Just a few simple reasons why the Nert is better than everyone thinks.

Every campus has one: that one awful dorm that everyone puts at the bottom of their preferences lists because no one in their right mind would want to live there. Whether it's the location, the room size, the number of roommates, the age of the building, or its proximity to some noisy street, there are some dorms where rooms must go begging.

Here at Saint Louis University, we are no exception. The name of this not so beloved dorm is Reinert Hall. I happen to live in Reinert, and let me tell you I was NOT pleased when housing arrangements were released. I knew that no one liked Reinert, which is why it was last on my list; that is what I get for filling out housing apps late. However, after only one semester I've grown to love it. So, I present to you a few reasons why living in Reinert doesn't mean the end of the world.

1. The Food Court

Yes that's right ladies and gentlemen, Reinert has its own, all-you-can-eat food court. Yes, Griesedieck, we know you have one too. It may be a little bigger but does size really compare when Reinert lets you serve yourself? Thats right. I went there.

2. The Private Bathrooms

I understand that this is a polarizing topic because not everyone wants to have to clean their own bathroom, but I consider this a huge blessing. Guess what? Want to know how many times I've gotten locked out of my room in my towel after I have left for a shower? None. Also, your roommates will only sometimes complain if you sing in the shower.

3. The Size of the Rooms

Reinert rooms are triples and quads which means not only do you get to make a second BFF roommate but you have a TON more space. And, you do not have to loft every bed just to fit a futon in there; I'm looking at you Griesedieck and Marguerite.

4. The Location (Sometimes)

So, the location of Reinert is not the best. In fact, its basically our major downfall. It is almost off campus and you have to cross a major street just to get to the main part of campus. However, Reinert is right across Grand from a Starbucks (for your early morning coffee needs), Chipotle, and Snarf's. It is also the closest to the Grand Metro station. So, when you feel like venturing out with your friends on the Metro, you'll be the one laughing when they have to walk a mile to get to the station. Also, it is pretty close to the med campus shuttle, so there's that for all you pre-meds (AKA most of Reinert).

5. The Number of People

Reinert is the second biggest residence hall in terms of number of occupants on campus. It also has the most students per floor, with almost 60. The means that you are bound to fine some who shares some similar interests outside of having the same bio lab and both being neuroscience majors. You will always have someone to respond to the call, "Hey is anyone walking back to Reinert?"

So, to all those who lovingly call "The Nert" home, I feel your pain. Having to leave at 7:30 for an 8am and walking past Shady Shell eight times a day may not be your favorite, but we love the Nert nonetheless. Reinert is our home and it is not all bad.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
