I recently had a conversation with someone about how our generation has this idea of paying for experiences. For instance, something like going to The Candle Lab. We could go out and just buy a candle that smells good but instead, we pay extra to have the experience of choosing our scents and creating our own candle. It seems excessive but when else am I going to get to make my own candle?
These experiences that people might be paying extra for are things they probably won't have the chance to do again. I think of this constantly when I'm with the student organizations that I am a part of. Right now, I'm helping prepare a season of a college-campus based "Survivor." At no other point in my life do I see the opportunity to do something like this with some of my best friends. I may not be spending extra money to do it, but it's definitely time-consuming.
All in all, these experiences are always worth it. I have some of my best memories doing things that aren't exactly necessary because I had a great time doing them. Sometimes it's not even about the activity -- it's about who you're doing it with. I would rather have all these great memories doing weird things with my friends than none at all.
