Going to school in the Middle-Of-Nowhere-Indiana has definitely been a huge transition (one that I still haven’t fully completed) especially growing up in Chicago my whole life. And yes, the actual city, not a suburb. Even though I love my school and the people in it, I would never live in a small, rural town/suburb post college…ever.
Here’s why:
1. Riding the train will always be my favorite form of transportation.
It gets you where you need to go at a pretty quick pace, you don’t have to pay for gas, and there’s no better way to get around than to enjoy the view of your city while listening to music.
2. I like having multiple places to eat within three blocks from me.
I’d rather not have to drive or use any sort of transportation besides walking, just to grab a bite to eat. If you can’t walk to it, it’s too far.
3. There’s always something to do.
Whether it’s going to a sporting event, catching the Blackhawks or Bulls game at a bar, trying new restaurants every week with some friends, or going to all the different street & music festivals, there’s always something to do.
4. Speaking of festivals, there are always at least three every weekend during the summer.
5. You’re never alone.
Even if you’re walking alone down the street, there are always people around. It’s never a dead or lonely night.
6. Street art.
Some may see it as vandalism, but real city people view it as art. If you actually take the time to look at it & enjoy all the street art around the city, you’ll notice that a lot of them have real meanings behind it.
7. The endless amount of diverse neighborhoods.
Every neighborhood is known for something different. But no matter what that stereotype might be, they’re all unique in their own way. And you definitely won’t find any two neighborhoods that look exactly alike.
8. Lastly, all the creative architecture.
Yeah skylines are beautiful and all, but once you live in a big city for a while, you start to appreciate all the small buildings’ architectures you pass by every day & their history.
