Earlier this month Kobe Bryant played in last NBA game. Whether you follow sports or not, you probably have heard the name Kobe Bryant at some point in your life. He has played for the Lakers the past 20 years and will be remembered as one of the best NBA players in history. Now I’m not a huge basketball fan, but when I heard he scored 60 points in his last game I was completely astounded! Through his whole 20 years in the NBA there has been only four other times when he has scored more than 60 points. That just goes to show how special that game was for him. It was his last game and he wanted to go out in memorable fashion.
This made me think more about life though and the way each of us lives our own life. How would we live our life if we knew it was our last day? Kobe knew that this was his last game and he wanted to leave his mark. I feel like if each of us knew when our last day would be, we would want to do something memorable to leave our mark on the world. I know I would want to just go do stuff with my friends and be with the ones that meant the most to me. Having fun with my friends and being with my loved ones is what my world centers around, and that’s the mark I know I would want people to remember me by.
But the sad thing in our lives is we won’t know when our retirement day will come. So why not live life like it’s always our last day. Go out and get ice cream with your friend, instead of just spending another night in your room watching Netflix. Give your parents a surprise call to tell them that you love them and just talk with them, instead of thinking you are too cool for them now that you are older. Go on a random adventure over the weekend with a group of friends, instead of spending yet another weekend sitting around playing video games. I challenge you to just go live a life of “Remember whens…” and not a life of “What ifs…". Go live your life with the intention Kobe had for his last game: memorable.
