“Alpha Delta Pi symbolizes all that we wish to accomplish in our lives. Alpha Delta Pi represents the struggles we all face as we grow. Why we cling to Alpha Delta Pi no one can explain, but in the end, we are all stronger for it.”- Anonymous
When I joined Alpha Delta Pi, I had no idea what it would mean to me in just a short semester. This sisterhood has given me amazing women who I call my best friends. They are smiling faces on campus, heart wrenching conversations, and girls who care about each other so much.
Going into recruitment, I was nervous of the stereotype that came from Hollywood. The typical stereotype could not be more misleading for my sisters. We have many rituals that we hold close to our hearts. Everyone genuinely wants to see you succeed in school, and in life. Our open motto, We Live For Each Other, has the most pure meaning. I have no doubt in my mind that my sisters would walk to the ends of the earth for each other.
After being apart for break, the joy I had when walking into meeting with my sisters was indescribable. Everyone was giddy, and attacking one another with hugs. It was like a giant family reunion, but everyone is mutually excited to see every relative.
One of my sisters told me on preference night, that no matter which sorority I wanted most, I wouldn't become apart of it because I have always been apart of it. It is something that I will cherish forever.
ADPi has shown me who I am as a person, and I now have many people that I look up to for multiple reasons. My sisterhood has given me a home; a place where I fit in, a place where I belong.
I have found a quite that sums up everything I have learned so far since being in a sorority, although:
“People ask me why I am in a sorority & I try to explain all the things a sorority is that they cannot see. A sorority is more than letters on a sweatshirt, I say. More than traditional songs, a gold pin, rituals, & obligation or a way of life. A sorority is learning about people, a sorority is giving without expecting a return. A sorority is earning respect from others, as well as for yourself. A sorority will not solve your problems. But I have made good friends & found confidence there to help me take life one step at a time." -Anonymous
No matter what anyone ever says about sororities- I wear my letters proud, closest to my heart.
