Live Each Day Like You're Dying

It's hard to live each day like you're dying, when you're worrying about the little things.

"Live Each Day Like You're Dying"

I think we all have heard that line before, if you didn't hear it by mouth, you heard similar sayings on social media or music. Queue the Kris Allen song. Now that we all enjoyed the Kris Allen song, let's get into the point of this article. "Live Each Day Like You're Dying." I hear this line a lot, everyone wants to make their life worth something and try their best not to waste time on the little things, but in reality day after day we worry about the little things and we stress about everything, big or small. If you were really trying to "Live each day like you're dying" would you really worry about those small details? If someone said something mean, would you really let that sly comment bother you? No. If you have minimal time to live you would want to try to be your best and do everything you can before death comes.

Everyone says they want to do that, but wanting to do that is a lot different than actually doing it right? I'm not going to sit here and play innocent, I'm a person who believes each day is a gift, not a given right, and wants to live everyday like it's my last, but it doesn't work that way. No matter what, you're going to get into a fight with someone over something big or something small it seems that you having this anger towards them is the right decision, because they wronged you. However, if you were planning to live every day like it's your last would you really want to have that fight be unresolved when you're six feet under? Would you really want to leave that baggage behind? Wouldn't you rather be neutral with everyone and die happy knowing you don't have any unresolved problems left to take care of?

Traveling. Traveling is something we all want to do. Who doesn't love a vacation? Right? Living each day like we're dying would make us want to travel more, knowing that one day we won't get to go to that country or that beach. Regardless of our intentions, other things tie us down. We tend to get held up by work or family and that vacation or trip gets more and more delayed. If it was your last day you would want to go and see that destination. You wouldn't care about tomorrow because there would be no tomorrow to worry about. Instead of worrying about this or that, just go out and do it. Traveling or adventuring is one of the best things you can do. You learn so much more about cultures and see some of the most beautiful destinations. Instead of pushing it off for other people or work. Go. You don't know if tomorrow will come or not, act now.

In conclusion, tomorrow is never promised and you need to take action on the activities you want to do. Next time you get into an argument with someone or go to say something that would hurt that person, think to yourself. Is this worth it? Will I be pleased with my actions if I was to die tonight? This goes the same for traveling. Will I be upset with my decision to put off this trip for work if I was to die tomorrow? If the answer is yes. Then you should stop stalling and start enjoying the world and the people in it.

We might not be able to live everyday like we're dying, but we can sure as hell try to.

Parks and Recreation excitedly gathered around a laptop at a table in an office setting.

The library. Club lib. The place every college student goes when they want to try and be a productive member of society. Who better to explain your experience than Parks and Rec?

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
