To My Little Sister

"Back in time it seemed that having a sister were a tragedy. Instead it is one of the best presents my parents could have ever given me." ―Sara Anzellotti, An Unexpected Proposal

God's greatest gift to girls was a sister, at least that I how I look at it. Imagine having a best friend who you live with; it's pretty awesome. Life with a sister is just better than life as an only child or life with a brother. It goes beyond just sharing clothes, shoes, makeup, and hair products. The type of bond I have with my sister is unlike the type of bond I have with anyone else. She knows me better than my mom knows me, she can tell when something is wrong immediately and never fails to lend a helping hand when needed. She is the best thing that I could have ever been given.

Sister,

I hope you know how wonderful you are. You are my best friend, my partner in crime, and the oneI can go to for anything. You never fail to make me laugh (even if I try to pretend your jokes are not funny because I want to be the funnier sibling). You simply amaze me in all aspects of life. Your intelligence is something I have always envied, along with your generosity. You are turning into such a beautiful person inside and out and I could not be more proud of you.

Life is not always easy for you but you find a way to make it work anyway. Your ability to overcome struggles and just grow from them is impeccable and you are rarely unhappy, even after a bad day.

Having a sister like you just makes my life easier, even if we are 230 miles, way because of college. I love our weekly FaceTime dates and they never fail to brighten my day. Seeing your smiling face (even if it is only for 30 minutes) is one of my favorite things.

I wish nothing but the best for you as you are growing up and making big life decisions. Deciding where you want to do for the rest of your life and where you want to go to college can be scary, but I know you will make a great choice. It is amazing watching you grow up and see the person you have become because I still remember you being 4 and playing Barbies with me. Although I miss those days, I like these days more. I enjoy having serious conversations with you about life and the people we have become. You have become such an amazing person. I hope you know how beautiful you are inside and out.

You're not only my little sister but also my best friend.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
