Growing up, the golden rule is plastered in classrooms all over the world. Treat others the way you would like to be treated. Sometimes, we all get super self-involved and forget about the others around us, and we forget about the kindness we should be spreading. You just need one person to start a chain of kindness, and I truly believe it.
You don’t necessarily need to do anything big to be considered a kind person, but you just need to smile and show a little bit of compassion to the others around you. Sometimes, we need to not focus on ourselves for just a moment and notice everyone else around us. It really can’t hurt you to show a little bit of kindness, it just shows you care. It’s the little things you do that make the biggest difference, like saying thank you to the person at Starbucks who hands you your morning coffee while you’re still half asleep.
If you can make one person’s day a little bit better, they will be more likely to spread the kindness around and brighten one more person’s day. The first step is to walk around with a smile; it won’t hurt you. Just smile. Also surround yourself with positivity. Your environment truly dictates your behaviors. If you surround yourself with those looking out for the best, odds are, they’ll rub off on you.
It seems like a silly thing to tell an adult to be kind and how kindness is important. Everyone has heard the saying to, "kill them with kindness," and that’s exactly what we should do all the time. We should put our best foot forward and start our day off saying thank you and being the best person we can be. Kindness is the basis of all human interactions. if you don’t have kindness in your actions it’s almost not worth it. No matter how urgent something may be, there is always time to put a please or a thank you after what ever might happen. If something bad is about to happen, by instinct we try to react as fast as possible but sometimes we just need to take a step back and act as if we care. Instead of yelling at someone not to do something, you can always just nicely tell him or her to do it a little bit differently.
Just know, as you do everything, to keep the thought of being kinder than necessary in the back of your head.
