here you are,
I was hoping you’d get around to reading this. I know how busy you’ve been lately and how chaotic life can get, so this will only take a couple minutes. There’s a few things I’ve been meaning to remind you -- some things I think you’ve been needing to hear. I know you are better at giving advice than taking it, but coming from the person who knows you better than anybody, just hear me out.
Cherish the little things.
Stop waking up angry at the alarm clock for doing its job. Instead, find the beauty in getting up while the earth is still dark, while the world is still asleep. Take a deep breath, the coffee smells better when you have a clear head. When you are on your way to work and the rain starts pouring down, don’t let it bother you. Let the raindrops bounce off the windshield and listen to the song they play. The rain might dampen your clothes. It doesn’t have to dampen your spirit.
Find value in the struggle.
You work hard. You were raised to work hard, because like Mom always said, nothing in life is free. So you work two (or three) jobs to pay for school and hoping you’ll end up in a career that you love. But you’re tired -- tired of going to school every morning and work every night. You’re tired of feeling like no matter how much you try, no matter how hard you work, you just can’t seem to get ahead. It might not seem like your efforts are paying off right now, but they will. There is something truly valuable in the struggle you're facing. There’s nothing more satisfying than accomplishing all of your goals, all on your own.
Make yourself happy too.
Don’t let yourself get so busy that you forget to enjoy each day. Lighten up. Make every minute a meaningful one. Buy those heels with the extra inch. Learn to play a song on the guitar. Read that book that has been sitting on the shelf for years. Do whatever it is that makes your heart skip a beat, and do it unapologetically.
Let go.
Seriously, just let go. Of people. Of habits. Of anything that is holding you back. Too much clutter in your life can be suffocating and there’s no better time than now for some spring cleaning. Those clothes that have been taking up space in your closet for years, get rid of them. That “friend” who’s never really been a good friend for you, ever -- let them go. That relationship you’ve been fighting to save for months now, stop trying. You can’t make somebody love you or value you, but you can let them go when they don’t.
Keep dreaming.
You’re a dreamer. And there is nothing wrong with that as long as long as you keep the will to chase your dreams. You have an entire life ahead of you, so go travel the world. Go see the northern lights and the pyramids of Egypt if that's what you want. Or learn a second language just because. Just hold on to your sense of humor and your thirst for adventure. You’ll be fine.
With Love,
Me
