According to Webster's Dictionary, a disability is "a physical or mental condition that limits a person's movements, senses, or activities." It is basically a disadvantage one has against the norm. Everyone has felt as if they are alone in their journey at least once in their lifetime, or felt as if they can't get through something. Here is a list of people in the spotlight who show that they are more than their "disability."
1. Oprah Winfrey
Since Oprah Winfrey was diagnosed with blood pressure issues due to her "unhealthy lifestyle," she has changed her ways to healthier life style.
2. Lucille Ball
Lucille Ball, star of "I Love Lucy," struggled with rheumatoid arthritis since she was 17! If you have seen the show, you know Ball had more energy, while playing Lucy, than the rest of the cast combined.
3. Dwight D. Eisenhower
Eisenhower was the 34th President of the United States, and is ranked number 9 on "The Greatest U.S. Presidents of All Time." He was known to have Chrone's Disease. However, he never let this slow him down. He was a general in World War II and was responsible for the successful invasion of France and Germany in 1944-1945.
4. Nick Jonas
Nick Jonas went public with his Type 1 Diabetes in 2007. Just like everyone else, he had to learn how to deal with his abnormality.
5. Demi Lovato
Demi has dealt with many disorders over the years. While in rehab for anorexia, bulimia, and cutting, she was diagnosed with a bipolar disorder. Since then, she has launched a mental-health awareness campaign and is working with nonprofits.
6. Selena Gomez
Selena Gomez had a five year journey with lupus, and she just trucked on through it. When she came to her realization that she had this disease, she rose to the challenge. She had a kidney transplant in May of 2017, and she has been raising awareness for lupus.
7. Usain Bolt
Bolt is an Olympic athlete who has had scoliosis since he was born. He is also ranked number 11 on "The Best Athletes of All Time."
8. Bob Marley
Marley was diagnosed with malignant melanoma in one of his toes, but eventually spread throughout his body to his brain and lungs. He died at age 36, but is still famous for his reggae music.
9. Ted Williams
Williams ended his baseball career in 1960, and six years later was elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame. He suffered from a stroke in 1994, and lived until 2002.
10. Kim Kardashian-West
Kim is living with Psoriasis. At first, Kim freaked out about her skin condition, but now she is learning to live with it.
11. Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga has become very vocal about her fibromyalgia this past year. She has even made a documentary about her struggle.
You should never feel alone in your struggle, because you are not alone. There are so many more people out there that are going through the same struggle you are going through. Don't be afraid to lean on your family and friends, like many of these celebrities did, when you run into trouble.
