Milk, eggs, bread; Inky, Pinky, Blinky -- everyone loves a good list. If you're an avid reader, creator, or admirer of lists, here are seven of the best lists the world has ever seen!
1. My friend Brandon's mom's grocery list.
This one is a classic and really takes me back to the early 2000s. Everyone went crazy over my friend Brandon's mom's grocery list. It started out with some thinly-sliced Genoa salami and ended with a bang -- 2% organic milk. What a way to shock the world with a Friday afternoon Stop & Shop to-do, Mrs. Brandon!
2. The 7th Grade "Hot or Not" List at Hillsborough Middle School.
When we all found out that Chad Wesson made it to the top of the Hot list, I think we all shed a few manly (or not-so-manly!) tears. We never thought they could shock us more, but when Grace Fallon made it to the top of the girl's Hot list, it was nation-wide hysteria. A great list!
3. "The Complete List of Non-Culinary Applications for Butter" by Paula Deen.
Soap, defensive weaponry, notebook paper, USB stick, return-flow enema -- nothing says "list" like Paula Deen's complete list of alternative uses for butter. We'll all never forget the first time we read it, and the first time we used three heaping pounds of butter as laundry detergent instead of that pesky Ajax!
4. The terrifyingly meticulous and thorough bank heist plan etched into the handicap stall at my favorite Nevada WaWa.
When anyone says the words "Tolas Place", we all get a bad case of nostalgia, thinking of that horrifically accurate and detailed list, the heist etched into the grime-encrusted stall at the famous Nevada WaWa. Unless, of course, you're a 7-Eleven fan! Yuck!
5. "Jack Nicholson's Favorite Things."
The self-referential poem penned by Jack Nicholson himself, this has got to be one of the greatest and most artistic lists of all time. Without it, we never would have known that one of Hollywood's most endeared actors had a pension for pickles, chipmunks, 'that redhead at the Walmart', and John Goodman.
6. The Ten Commandments.
I know what you're thinking -- hey, this ought to be a bit farther up there! It's not that the Ten Commandments isn't a solid listicle, it's just that it's not trending right now. Still, classics are classics -- I understand sentimentality, and the Ten Commandments are the alpha and omega of throwbacks.
