Cash Money records might be taking over for the 99, and the 2000s but they won't be doing it with Lil' Wayne on their team. Lil' Wayne and Birdman's relationship has been very rocky for the past couple months. Lil' Wayne's beef with Cash Money started back in December 4, 2014. After the denial for the release of his album "Tha Carter V," Lil Wayne vented on twitter :
Still awaiting the release of "Tha Carter V," Lil' Wayne released "Sorry 4 The Wait 2," dissing Cash Money and Birman on the remix of "CoCo." Lil Wayne raps "Birdman Jr.? More like ugly duckling" and more blows like "Cash Money is an army, I'm a one man army, and if them n---as coming' for me I'm going out like Tony." Lil Wayne doesn't stop there, he also raps, "I don't want no problems I just want my money" and fires shots like, "All I got is Young Money, no more Cash n---a."
On January 28, 2015, Lil Wayne filed a lawsuit against Cash Money Records for $51 million, demanding he be released from the label and that Birman and company violated the terms of his contract by denying "Tha Carter V." As TMZ reported, Lil Wayne is owed $10 million, solely for the recording and completion of Tha Carter V: "Cash Money agreed to pay Carter an advance of Ten Million Dollars ($10,000,000) per solo album, with Eight Million Dollars ($8,0000,000.00) to be paid upon the commencement of the recording of each solo album and the remaining Two Million Dollars ($2,000,000) to be paid upon deliver of such album to Cash Money."
Also, "Cash Money has failed to properly account and pay royalties and profits to Young Money LLC. While Cash Money needed Weezy and Young Money's approval for marketing expenses greater than $300,000.00, they did not do so, and Cash Money "claims millions of dollars in marketing expenses for the Young Money Label."
The beef starts intensify more when Birman decided to take interest in Wayne's protege Young Thug. Young Thug resembles some of Lil Wayne's characterIstics: his rap flow, dreads, tattoos and piercings. Young Thug really struck a light when he planned to name his next project Carter 6 but due to copyright claims the project was renamed to Barter 6. Lil' Wayne took this as offensive, and dissed the two on stage at a night club.
In July of 2015, Birdman did an interview with Power 105's Angie Martinez addressing his relationship Young Money stars Lil' Wayne, Drake and Nicki Minaj saying they were not leaving the label, and denying all allegations to him throwing a bottle at Wayne. Birdman also said, "We're going to clear the air, but this ain't the time or place to do that. I know he's traveling, I know his schedule. Ima wait till the proper time." Birdman began to get in his feelings a little bit more when he said "I love my son, for that man to say something negative about me, that affected my life."
July was a busy month for the feud; Birman sued Jay Z and Tidal for $50 million for streaming 'Free Weezy.' Birdman claimed Cash Money still held rights to Lil Wayne's music and Tidal streaming this project was illegal.
January 1st, 2016, the two must have resolved the issues or at least played cool because they were seen at Drake's New Year's Eve party. Lil' Wayne still had not agreed to drop his lawsuit, but apparently the two would stop dissing each other via music and night clubs.
Soon after most assumed the beef was dead, the two were seen on stage together. Birdman states how Wayne is his son, he lives for him and he will kill for him. The two were even in the studio together with Yo Gotti. Wayne still has not dropped his lawsuit but legal issues were to be resolved soon.
March 2016, Wayne then files a lawsuit against Universal Music Group, trying to regain the profits of his artists Nicki Minaj, Drake and Tyga. Universal allegedly used most of Wayne's money to pay off Birdman's debt from Cash Money label.
In recent news, May 2016, the lawsuit is still on going and Lil' Wayne is still doing appearances where he disses Cash Money records on stage. He is still fighting the battle over releasing "Tha Carter V." All of their talks were not put into action and the two are back to square one. A year and a half after their beef, and still no money or album. Wayne is pretty upset with Cash Money this could be the end. Meanwhile, Weezy refuses to put 'respek' on his name and so does the Breakfast Club.
