If You Like It, Then You Should Put a Condom On It

Yes, this article will be about sex and condoms, but it's more specifically about America's privileged sexually active individuals who do not use the resources given to them. The world is more than a harsh reality, and I'm here to give you the harsh truth, my friend.

Choosing to not use a condom is perfectly fine, so long as you take the precautionary measures to ensure your health and safety. If the female partner is not using contraceptives, then your chances of pregnancy increase significantly. This applies not only to cisgendered couples, but also transgendered couples as well, as long as someone can become pregnant. If your pull-out game is weak, then you should resort to using condoms, especially if you and your partner are not ready to raise a child or seek an abortion afterward. If you and your partner are strictly monogamous, then the decision to not wrap it up is feasible in terms of not contracting sexually transmitted diseases. But life can hit you harder than Solange hitting Jay-Z in an elevator. News Flash: you never know what your partner is carrying until you see the paperwork.

It's 2016, and even Jay-Z cheated on Beyonce. Am I saying that you should be an overprotective and manipulative partner and stalk your lover to make sure they stay #loyal? NO. What I'm telling you is to be cautious and get tested regularly, even if you are in a committed long-term relationship.

Whether you are straight, bisexual, gay or, yes, even lesbian (there are female condoms y'all), unprotected sex feels A LOT better, but your chances of contracting STDs or AIDS increases by A LOT too. I don't need to use numbers or big words to convince you of this, because it's common sense.

...YET WE CONTINUE THE TREND OF NOT USING CONDOMS.

Why is this? Because as privileged Americans who have resources in about every corner, we take things for granted. Don't twist my words, because I'm not targeting every single American. I understand that in certain situations, financial concerns, pride, a lack of knowledge and other things come into play. "Poor people should not have sex if they can't afford condoms." These words came from a friend of a friend and I disagree with it wholeheartedly.

We can't ignore the fact that individuals, time and time again, don't use condoms. Our privilege includes free condoms at our college campuses, doctor's offices, and Planned Parenthood. Abortion is illegal in six nations: Holy See, Malta, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Nicaragua, and Chile. Although we still have a bit of work to accomplish here in the states, women here won't be incarcerated for exercizing their rights over their own bodies. Wrapping up isn't a necessity, but it reduces the risk of sexually transmitted diseases and pregnancy.

Using a condom doesn't just apply to penetration either. You can definitely "catch them all" if you perform oral sex without a condom. Besides, we all know swallowing doesn't taste too great anyways. So, if you like it , then you should put a condom on it. Be safe and make good decisions.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
