Let's be honest, college can be hard, tiring, and boring. It can easily look a lot like going through the motions. We wake up in the morning, get dressed, eat breakfast (if we even have time), go to class, eat lunch, go to class, study, eat dinner, shower, study again, sleep, and repeat (or something like this routine). I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to live a life of just going through the motions. The good news is that we don’t have to live this way. A life with Jesus means a life of everlasting adventure.
As followers of Christ, we are called to walk in the Spirit. The amazing thing is that by God’s grace, we don’t have to strive for this, but we can freely receive it by saying, “yes” to Jesus and a life with Him. When we surrender all of ourselves to Him we in return get all of Him. Jesus gives us His spirit, the Holy Spirit that dwells within us, as followers of Christ. Galatians 5:22-23 lists the Fruits of the Spirit, which are: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. When we are in Christ, then the Holy Spirit dwells inside of us and we have these characteristics! Let’s activate the Spirit of God inside of us and walk in Him daily. Practically, this daily looks like constant surrender to God and reminding ourselves us His truths. As 2nd Corinthians says, “Take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” For example, I am a child of God (John 1:12), I am free (Galatians 5:1, John 8:36), I am not alone (Joshua 1:9, Zephaniah 3:17), and I am not anxious (Isaiah 41:10, Psalm 94:19).
However, sometimes we are in the mundane and the Lord has us here for reason. Instead of fighting it, ask God why he has you hear in this season? In a time of waiting, trials, or mundaneness trust that God is making you more like Christ and that He truly has a purpose for this season in life and that it is for your good! There’s glory not just in climbing mountains, but also in the mundaneness in life. With everything you do, do it as worship and for the glory of God. God is faithful and He is doing a mighty work inside of you and when He delivers you from that season you will be able to trace His faithful hand through it all.
Let’s live well while in the mundane. The devil wants us to believe that a life following God is boring and wrong. However, life with Jesus is anything but boring. A life following Jesus is full of joy, freedom, and true life! We can’t find this life on our own, but only in Christ and it’s so amazing that we can just freely accept this. However, let’s remember our free gift of abundant life from God is only free for us because it cost God everything-his Son who died for our sins and whom God miraculously raised again.
What a gift the Holy Spirit is to us. Let’s live a life full of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.
