Many of us college students are guilty of being obsessed with reality television, especially "The Bachelor." We don’t like to admit it, but we watch shows like this religiously. Although it may seem that we are nothing like the people on "The Bachelor," they actually display a lot of the same situations and struggles we go through as college students.

1. Syllabus week

2. Waking up for an 8 a.m. class

3. Going to class with a professor you hate


4. Dreaming about how much better your life would be if you didn't enroll next semester

5. Dining hall food

6. Having multiple exams, quizzes, and assignments due on the same day

7. Getting an A on an exam

8. When your professor tries answering your question and you still don't understand what they are saying

9. Taking a nap that lasts way longer than it was supposed to

10. Not eating enough to try to get everything done

11. When your friends or family surprise you with some good food

12. Turning down plans with your friends to study

13. When your professor says there is no curve on the exam after getting your grade back

14. Walking into class and having a pop quiz on the reading you didn't do

15. Leaving class like...

16. Going to office hours to fight for your grade

17. Trying to make sense of an irrelevant project that has no value to the class

18. Giving up on trying to succeed in a class

Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
