Life Lessons "Tangled" Taught Me

At last I see the light...

Rapunzel is quite easily my favorite Disney princess of all time. She’s adventurous, adorable, curious and has long blonde hair (like me).The original story of Rapunzel dates back to as early as 1634 and there have been several adaptations of it since then. As we all know, it later became an animated Disney film in 2010 with the title “Tangled.”

There are several life lessons "Tangled" taught me:

1. Step out of your comfort zone.

“Life begins outside of your comfort zone.” Leave the tower.

2. Never give up.

Push through the struggles. Face every challenge head-on. Rapunzel never gave up hope on seeing the floating lanterns. Her parents never gave up hope that their daughter would someday return home.

3. Life is full of small, memorable moments.

Enjoy the sunshine, drink your coffee slowly, and stop and smell the flowers. Notice the small things in life.

4. It’s okay to miss home.

You will go to college and eventually move away from home. Life happens. It's okay to miss where you came from.

5. Be fearless.

Take risks and be brave. It will almost always pay off. Even if it means tying a mysterious (yet handsome) guy to a chair with your hair.

6. Listen.

Stories, advice, music, fairy tales. Listen to everything. Take it all in.

7. Resist the smolder.

It's hard, I know.

8. Making friends with animals always pays off.

They’re great listeners and are fun to play dress-up and hide and seek with.

9. Pursue your passion.

Fill your life with happiness. Do what you love.

10. Change is good.

Even changing your hair color.

11. Not even the tallest tower can stop a dream.

If Rapunzel can escape her tower and visit the floating lanterns with Flynn Rider, you can chase your dream too. Believe in yourself.

12. Things aren’t always as they seem.

Mother Gothel kidnapped Rapunzel as a baby and pretended she was her mother for 18 years. The Snuggly Duckling sounded adorable, then was scary, then was actually awesome. Do your research, and never assume.

13. Find a hobby.

Painting, candlestick making, baking, brushing her hair. Find something you love and stick with it.

14. “That’s the good part I guess. You get to find a new dream.”

Always push yourself and pursue your passions. Never stop dreaming.

15. Frying pans can be used as weapons.

The more you know.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
