Now some of you are probably reading this thinking, "what the heck is a sweetheart?" Don't worry - I was thinking that to myself, too when I first joined my sorority and heard that there are fraternity and sorority sweethearts. Being a sweetheart for a fraternity means that I help them out with their philanthropy events, projects, and just anything that they have coming up that they need to plan for. You also go and support them at their intramural games too!
The day I found out that I was the sweetheart for the Iota Epsilon Chapter of Lambda Chi Alpha, I was shocked and ecstatic! One of the Lambda Chi's, Dan, my best friend that I made the first semester, texted me and asked if I would do a Greek Life interview with him one evening, and I said I would do it. That evening finally came, and I was sitting in my sorority's main suite waiting for him to show up. The door suddenly opened, and there was Dan, and following behind him was a group of Lambda Chi's. They all had flowers in their hands, and they all kneeled down and serenaded me with the Lambda Chi Alpha Sweetheart song. The gentlemen of Lambda Chi Alpha were the first people I hung out with my first semester at Indiana State, and I got really close to them. They're all unique and different in their own ways. They're a fun group of guys to be around, and I'm so lucky to represent them. I grew up with only one big sister and no brothers. Now that I'm the Sweetheart for Lambda Chi Alpha, I gained 50 new amazing brothers that will always be there for me!
One of their events that I loved supporting the guys at was their annual Teeter Totter Event. They sit on this huge teeter totter for 24 hours for seven days and raise money for their philanthropy, Feeding America. It was a cold, rainy week for the Lambda Chi's, but any chance I got the time to go out to Wolf Field and hang out with the guys I would. From running to get them food from McDonald's, to running to, the Cupboard for some hot chocolate! I miss spending late nights with the guys in the library studying for finals on dead week. I never thought you could have fun studying in the library, until I started studying with the Lambda Chi's. Even if I have to tell them to stop messing around and actually study!
I can't wait for the fall to come so I can reunite with my Lambda Chi Alpha family and see what this year has in store for us! I miss the guys so much, but they do a great job sending me hilarious snap chats of them to keep in contact with me! This is my amazing life as a Lambda Chi Alpha Sweetheart!
