What is life?
That’s a question I tend to ask myself and the world around me daily. And I’m pretty sure I’ll never fully know the answer.
"Everything happens for a reason."
"Live life with no regrets."
"When life gives you lemons make lemonade."
"Look at the glass half full."
"Carpe Diem."
"Life is too short."
These are just a few sayings about life, albeit extremely cliché, that in my opinion really do say it all. Nowadays we get so wrapped up in our lives and the inevitable stress surrounding us each day that we tend to forget how to actually live.
We place so much significance on all the sh*t that goes on, the work we don’t want to be doing, but that pays the bills. The to-do lists are a mile long of stuff we need, have, or want to do, and the first things that usually get dropped off the list are the things we actually want to be doing.
We’ve stopped looking at the glass half full, and no longer have time in our days to make lemonade. I really can’t remember the last time I seized the day, and I have a tattoo that says Carpe Diem on the back of my neck. We’ve become scared of living our lives without regret and don’t feel that there necessarily is a reason for everything. In my opinion, and most importantly, we’ve forgotten and lost sight of how short our life actually is.
Life is way too short. And we really are never fully guaranteed a tomorrow, which is an extremely terrifying and kind of a pessimistic thought. But I don’t look at it that way.
If you lived life with the mind set that tomorrow is not always guaranteed, I’m pretty sure you would have that extra piece a pizza, or occasionally play hooky and call off work. You would probably eat more chocolate and drink more wine. You would probably tell the people in your life how you actually felt and say I love you more. You would run and laugh like you were a little kid again. You would stop and smell the roses and not sweat the fact that you just tripped over air. You would be grateful for that sunshiny day, and altogether you would definitely smile more.
