A Letter To Today's Youth

A letter to today's youth, the future's secret weapon.

At a recent X Ambassadors concert, the lead singer, Sam Harris, dedicated the song "Renegades" to the youth. Harris also took time to acknowledge how much we had to fight for at this moment in time. It was these words, their songs, that lead to me create this letter.

Dear Today's Youth,

You are the world's secret weapon. Most people will pass you off as an immature young adult, but that's not who you are.

You are the daisies in a field.

You may look small, unimportant, and I bet some of you feel that way too. But tell me, what does it feel like when your yellow petals become the white seeds people wish upon?

People wish upon you and the opportunity that the wind will carry their wishes away in hopes someone will answer. What they don't know is those small daisies, infused with problems both trivial and paramount, those are who will answer.

Daisies are far from weak and, as many people know, they're a pain to get rid of. In this case, some would say it's better that way. As the world's youth, as daisies, we may seem mundane, but we will stand our ground, I have no doubt.

We are the jar of pennies on your floor, waiting for the second we can break free and put forth our might.

We are the clocks on your wall, arms ticking by the minute, watching others put out the light.

We are the world's youth, waiting for the hour people realize we're ready to solve the problems you have yet to write.

We are here.

We are done waiting.

This battle isn't about profit or power; it's about not feeling afraid of the future, it's about hope.

If you were to ask a group of young adults if they are scared of the world's future, you'd be surprised to see just how many lift their hands or nod their heads.

But if we have learned anything in these last few years, it's that while improvement is hard won, the change it brings will only inspire.

No doubt it will take time, but the wishes have been heard and the seeds set into motion.

We have seen the storms surrounding us and we chose to let the lightning fuel our fire, the wind to carry us places far beyond our eye, to carry us to the future.

If you need proof, look online, search the internet, who do you see striving for change? Is it adults? More often than not, it's a kid.

These kids are not ordinary. They're the ones tired of the mess we live in. They've seen enough and because of that, they'll never give up.

These are the kids who hope.

It is because of them that I have no doubt the world we will build won't be the world we are left with.

"So let's begin."

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
