I think that what you did is absolutely disgusting.
For those of you that do not know, Walmart thought that it would be okay to sell Halloween costume makeup for depicting cut marks on arms, which implies that self-harm is something to be celebrated as part of the Halloween spirit.
Let me just teach you something. MENTAL ILLNESS IS NOT A JOKE. It is exactly what the title says, an illness. Would you make a costume out of a cancer patient, or an eating disorder? I do not think so. So what makes you think that self-harm, or a suicide attempt is even moderately acceptable for Halloween fun? As someone who has had many friends and family suffer from mental illness, and had friends take their own lives, I do not think this sales decision is appropriate at all. In fact, it is actually quite offensive and sickening. Just so you are aware, over 100 people commit suicide in the United States EVERY DAY. In addition, for every suicide, there are 25 attempts. In fact, suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the United States.
So the next time you even consider making a joke out of such a serious topic, understand that every other American has experienced mental illness, or been exposed to it in some way, and does not appreciate your decision.
