A Letter To The Girl Who Needs To Walk Away

To the girl who needs to walk away, I hope you realize you're worth it. You're worth the effort and the acts of appreciation. You're worth the time. You're worth them noticing how much you give, and I wish you would take all of that into consideration when you keep on deciding to stay.

It's on you to decide that you're worth it, but I promise you that you are. I promise that even though they don't notice your generosity and effort that someone else will. Someone else will light up when you go out of your way for them, and will find your quirks admirable. Someone else will make you feel like you're on top of the world instead of carrying it's weight on your shoulders. But you need to walk away for you and on your own terms.

I get that being there for that person is so wonderful and empowering that leaving that feeling behind seems like an end to something that should last a lifetime. I know how hard it is to say goodbye to someone who you can talk to about anything and everything and never miss a beat. I know what it's like to find your other half and then come to realize you were whole to begin with.

And it hurts. It's always going to hurt, but you need to ask yourself something. Are THEY worth it? Because I know for a fact that you are. You're worth more than an inadequate feeling in a friendship or feeling like the only one giving in the relationship and never having anything there to take from. You should walk away knowing that. But walk away for you.

Walk away when you've finally had enough of that feeling. When you realize that you can breathe a little better without them polluting your air. When you feel lighter among their absence. Walk away when you feel yourself smiling more when they're gone. When you don't sprint to see if it's them who called. When you don't mind that they haven't reached out in months. Walk away when you don't need them. Walk away because you're strong, maybe not now but you will be eventually.

Walk away because without them you have become a better you. Someone who walks away from this with their shoulders back and their head high. Someone who knows they deserve to look for silver linings in the clouds rather than mud in the cracks. Someone who knows the difference between how they're being treated now and how they should be treated.

When you know all of those things, walk away for you. Right there. Right then. Make it happen and don't look back. Move forward and know from that point on, every relationship is within your control and not one other person on this planet has the right to make you feel like less of a person. Know that you are in control of your happiness. Know that you're worth it. Know that you had every right to walk away.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
