T-Swift, you know I love you home girl. You and I have been tight since “Teardrops on my Guitar” became the anthem to my first crush, and “Picture to Burn” helped me get over the heartbreak when it didn’t work out. I have always been a tried and true fan of your country-pop smash hits and continue to be to this day.
But it seems like you and I might be starting to have a little bit of a problem. It was just the other day I was on my way to the gym and I could not think of any song I wanted to jam to other than “Shake It Off.” That song is seriously the best pump-up song, you go girl. As I was excitedly typing this title into my Spotify search bar, I almost could not believe what my eyes were beholding. “Shake It Off” could not be found on Spotify. And neither could basically any other Taylor Swift song. Like ever.
I thought I was having heart palpitations. I could not breathe. How could I make it through this work-out without my go-to Taylor Swift jams?! How would I ever recover from another break-up? What would I listen to on my 22nd birthday? I decided to calm down a bit, and turn to Google for the real low down on the situation and was bombarded with article after article bearing the same sad headline: Taylor Swift has removed all of her music from Spotify.
I was enraged. How could you do this to me T-Swizzle? I have been a loyal fan since day one. I watched you move away from your sweet country roots to find a bigger fan base in the pop realm. I defended your slightly off-putting dating choices one after the other. I loved every song just as much as the one before it. I watched the entirety of the Shake It Off video and I swear I only cringed once during that twerk scene. And this is how you treat me?
I know you’re trying to uphold the integrity of your art and you don’t want to contribute the devaluation of music everywhere, but is that really what this is about? Is making a statement really worth depriving me my daily dance party to “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together”? I’m already paying 10 dollars a month for this music service, but you’re telling me I also need to find the money to personally buy each and every one of your CDs too?! Do you think I am made of money??
I really hope you reconsider this decision, otherwise you can be sure my (future) boyfriend and I’s song will be definitely not be “Our Song.” Maybe now I get why Harry Styles dumped you…
Sincerely,
