A Letter To My Sorority Sisters

A letter of thanks, love, and hope for myself and our chapter.

A Letter To My Sorority Sisters
Miranda Norton

To my amazing sorority sisters,

As we're welcoming in another pledge class of amazing women, I was thinking about everything that we are and all that you wonderful women have done for me. I had to write a letter of thanks, love, and hope to all of you.

There is a quote that says, " Friends are the family we choose for ourselves." I think that sums up my sisters for me. You have shown me family in a way that I never knew it could exist. You are there for me, with support and kindness, when I'm struggling and in good times; you cheer me on and push me to better myself. You have allowed me to open up, which I could never do before, and I thank you for that. I thought the term sisters was silly until I found this sorority and learned that it wasn't just a term, it really meant sisters. It's each of us being unique that makes us work as a family. Yes, we are all different, but we all have a place and it fits and works!

You accepted and embraced me despite our differences. None of us fits what people assume a sorority girl is and I am not an exception to that. You have completely accepted me, despite my odd life story and personality, and you embrace me for it! You are each your own person yet all make up an incredible group that I love.

I have made so many amazing memories with every single one of you! From getting pies thrown in our face for charity to eating wings for the first time at midnight during Formal Recruitment, I have tried so many new things and had so many wonderful times thanks to you amazing women! Joining the sorority pushed me outside of my comfort zone and helped me grow so much as a person. Each memory I have with you helped me to grow and improve as a person. You have opened my mind to so many new possibilities and ideas and I thank you for that! Plus, I have some amazing stories now!

And last, but certainly not least, to my new sisters; I hope I can provide for you everything that our sorority has provided me and even more if that is possible. I hope that you all continue to grow and that our sorority can help form you into the amazing leaders you all are. You will be such a wonderful addition to our big family and I can't wait to see what you amazing young women do with your lives.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
