A Letter To My Sister-At-Heart As She Leaves For College

Dear sis,

Wowza, dude. It is almost time for you to move into your very first dorm. Soon, you will be walking across campus to your college classes, and meeting some pretty amazing, lifelong friends. It seems like just yesterday we were walking down the halls of our middle school and high school dreaming of the day we would go to college. Now, the day for you is less than 24 hours away, and the more you mention packing, the more emotional I get. (No matter how much you tell me to not cry.)

You see, even though we aren't blood sisters, you've surely been the closest one to it. We've shared memories, laughter, tears, prayers, clothing, food (reluctantly), and endless amounts of time together. My family is your family, and your family is my family. You are an irreplaceable person in my life. In other words, sorry you can't get rid of me.

As you go through this school year, you will find things to be different. This year will be a time of self-reflection and growth. You will basically be on your own, so you will be creating the environment you wake up in every morning. If you do change, don't change because other people want you to; change because that is who God is growing you into and because that is what you want. Remember how valuable you are, fearfully & wonderfully made!! You have a strong mind, a big heart, and a bright future ahead of you, and I cannot wait to see all the amazing places God guides you.

Remember to read your textbooks, get your laundry out of the washer on time, and get 👏 some 👏 sleep 👏 . But remember to have fun! Some great advice that a dear friend told me at the beginning of my freshman year that really stuck with me was, "You won't remember a single night you stayed up stressing over an assignment." While your education is a primary focus at school (don't procrastinate too much now), it is the little moments with your hallmates, at events, and the taken (good) risks that really give your college experience life.

While we are off on our separate campuses, we will be busier than ever. But one great thing about us is that no matter how long we go with just saying, "HOPE YOU'RE HAVING A GOOD DAY. LOVE YOU!" over text, we pick right back up where we left off. I pray that God will only give us chances to grow closer and put Him at the center of our sisterhood. Like always, remember that no matter the time of day (or night) and no matter what the situation, I will always be there for you!! (even if it is about a cute guy looking at you during a football game) Before I sign off, I want to leave you with one last thing...

Over this past year, I've found that home isn't a set place, but always where the people you love most are. So, sis, thanks for being home for so many years. Love you more than double-stuffed Oreos.

WITH LOVE,

SISSY

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
