We’ve all been testing out this whole college thing for over a month now. We all had to part ways with our best friends from back home — the people that we grew up with that probably know us better than we know ourselves. We went from spending our days with them laying out at the beach, or getting ice cream (sometimes multiple times a day, no shame) during the summer to not seeing them at all. We all wound up here, knowing practically no one, and were forced to start fresh and quickly make new friends.
That being said, I’m beyond grateful that I got stuck with you guys.
I didn’t have to worry about the whole, “Oh god, how does one make new friends?” ordeal because we all immediately just clicked. We bonded over our *immaculate* tastes in music and our similar senses of humor, aka over the top sarcasm.
I am truly blessed to have found people that appreciate Velveeta Mac and Cheese and Pop-Tarts as much as I do — and I’m sure the appreciation will only blossom more over the next few years.
I can always count on you guys to go to the dining hall with me and fully support my decision to stuff my face with chocolate chip cookies. More times than not, you all are doing the same exact thing. You guys get my butt off of my bed and get me to go to the gym, even if it’s usually at 10 o’clock at night. I also know that you will find a way to keep me up until 2 a.m. every night, with an 8:30 class the next morning mind you, because we always manage to talk (or sing) the night away. We are there for each other when one of us, or sometimes all of us, is having boy problems, and we listen and try to give the best advice because we all genuinely care. We will make popcorn at midnight and have deep conversations in the middle of our hallway, (our deepest apologies to our neighbors). We are there for each other when one of us is about to make a stupid decision and we give each other that friendly slap in the face and reality check. For the few weeks that we have been here, we have already experienced many highs and some lows, but we have become so close as a result of that.
As much as we miss our friends from back home, we’re always there for each other and I can tell that this will be a long-lasting friendship. We have each other’s backs, and we are incredibly supportive of each other which is a fantastic thing. I think it is safe to say that considering we spend every day together, we are pretty comfortable with one another. I have never met other people that are so similar to me, and it is kind of strange but also kind of amazing.
Coming into college I was scared that I was going to be that loser that had no friends, but instead I found you losers, and I am so thankful.
